Albert Tiu


Born in 1969 in Cebu, Albert's musical journey began at the age of five when he first touched the piano. By eleven, he was accepted into the prestigious Philippine High School for the Arts, a renowned institution for young, talented musicians. His piano studies took him across the globe, learning from respected teachers such as Nita Quinto at the University of the Philippines, John Winther at the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts, and Michael Lewin at the Boston Conservatory. His time at the Juilliard School, where he earned a Master of Music degree in 1996 under Jerome Lowenthal, further shaped his artistry. Albert’s competitive spirit led him to win major piano competitions, including First Prizes at the 1996 Unisa Piano Competition in South Africa and the 2000 Web Concert Hall Piano Competition in the U.S. He also received accolades at the Honens, Maj Lind, and Santander International Competitions, where his exceptional performances of Mozart’s Piano Concerto K.595 and Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No. 2 earned special recognition. As a soloist, Albert has graced the stages of some of the world’s most esteemed orchestras, performing with the St. Petersburg Philharmonic, Hamburg Symphony, Finnish Radio Symphony, and the Philippine Philharmonic Orchestra, among others. His dynamic performances span from Europe to Asia, with a repertoire that demonstrates both technical brilliance and expressive depth. Now based in Singapore, Albert shares his wealth of experience as a Professor at the Yong Siew Toh Conservatory at the National University of Singapore, inspiring the next generation of pianists with his passion and expertise.
