Jennifer Lane

Mezzo-soprano Jennifer Lane is internationally recognized as a "singer whose dark, bottomless voice is matched by her expressiveness and intelligence." Her versatile career spans the Metropolitan Opera, San Francisco Opera, and Opéra Monte Carlo, as well as prestigious orchestras including the National Symphony and the San Francisco Symphony. She has collaborated with legendary conductors such as Robert Shaw, Michael Tilson Thomas, and William Christie, appearing with premier period-instrument ensembles like Les Arts Florissants and Philharmonia Baroque.

With a discography of over fifty recordings on labels such as Naxos, Koch, and Magnatune, Ms. Lane’s recorded legacy includes Stravinsky’s Oedipus Rex, Schoenberg’s Gurrelieder, and two films: Dido & Aeneas and the romantic comedy The Opera Lover. Her stage repertoire is equally vast, featuring signature roles in Handel’s Orlando, Hercules, and Theodora, as well as the title role in Carmen and Jocasta in Oedipus Rex.

A dedicated educator and director, Ms. Lane has staged productions for Stanford University, the Lake Placid Institute, and the Blackfriars Theatre. Her directorial credits include The Magic Flute, Semele, and Dido & Aeneas. Currently an Associate Professor at the University of North Texas, she previously served on the faculty at Stanford and the University of Kentucky.
